Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Book an Appointment

To start, secure an appointment on the Absher website. Here’s a quick guide:

Log in to your Absher account and follow these steps;

Step 2: Initial Assessment

On the day of your appointment, head to the Dallah Driving School and follow these steps:

  1. Present your digital iqama and the printed appointment confirmation at the Absher counter. They will verify your details and provide you with a token number.
  2. For your initial assessment, proceed to Gate 2. Wait for your token number to be called, then approach the car where the instructor will evaluate your driving skills.
  3. After a successful assessment, go to Counter 3 to pay the required fees. This payment covers the theoretical class, computer test, and practical driving session. The minimum fee is 690 SR, which includes VAT.
  4. After payment, you’ll receive an invoice and an SMS with the date and time of your first theoretical class.

Pro Tip: Bring an ATM card with sufficient balance, as cash payments aren’t accepted. Confidence in your skills will make the initial assessment smoother.

Step 3: Attend Theoretical Classes

When your theoretical class date arrives, report to Dallah at the specified time. Each theoretical session is two hours long, covering essential driving rules and road signs. The material is presented in both Urdu and English, ensuring you understand key concepts for the upcoming computer test.

You’ll also receive an SMS link to an E-book that you can review. Pay attention to the slides and study the materials provided, as this will help you succeed in the computer test.

After completing both classes, Dallah will stamp your invoice with your scheduled test date, and an SMS will confirm the exact time.

Important: Bring a smartphone with the Absher app installed to access your digital iqama. Only digital Iqama is accepted at most stages of the process.

Step 4: Computer Test

The computer test is a significant part of the process and assesses your knowledge of traffic rules and road signs:

  1. The test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and you need at least 22 correct answers to pass.
  2. You have 35 minutes to complete the test, with the option to choose your preferred language. Available options include English, Arabic, and more.

Tip to Pass the Computer Test: Use your time wisely. Answer questions you are confident about first, and skip the ones you’re unsure of. You can revisit them later to ensure you’re not rushed. It’s advisable to take the test in English or Arabic, as the phrasing in other languages may be tricky.

If you don’t pass the computer test, you will need to pay 86 SR for each retest attempt.

Step 5: Medical Examination and Government Fees

After passing the computer test, you will need to complete a medical examination and pay the government fees:

  1. Medical Test: Go to any polyclinic for a basic exam covering eyesight and blood type. Do take a copy of your iqama and one passport-size photo. The test takes around 30 minutes and costs between 90 and 130 SR. Click here for a detailed guide on How to get a medical report for driving license.
  2. Government License Fee Payment: You’ll choose the license duration (2, 5, or 10 years) and pay the associated fee (e.g., 400 SR for a 10-year license).

Keep copies of both the medical report and government fee receipt, as these will be checked before the practical driving class.

Step 6: Practical Driving Class

Once your documents are ready, report to Dallah Driving School for the practical driving class. Bring the following:

  • A hard copy of your medical report
  • The receipt for your government fee payment

At Counter 3, they will review your documents and schedule your final driving test. During the practical class, your instructor will cover essential maneuvers, including reverse parking and driving in a “figure 8” pattern. After the class, you can leave and await your final test date.

Step 7: Final Driving Test

Finally, the day arrives for your driving test. Here’s how it will go:

  1. Report to Dallah Driving School at the scheduled time. Bring both your digital iqama and a printed copy on A4 paper.
  2. You will join other candidates in a seminar hall, where students are taken in rounds for their test. When it’s your turn, approach the designated car, greet your instructor, and prepare to drive.
  3. The instructor may ask you to perform basic maneuvers like straight driving, reverse parking, or navigating the “8” pattern. The test itself is brief but requires focus and attention.

If you pass, your digital driving license will be issued the next day, and you can pick up your physical license from Dallah in the morning.

Note: If you’re applying for a motorcycle license, a Police Clearance Certificate in Arabic is required to obtain your license.

During the entire procedure ensure your Iqama is valid and you have access to Digital iqama. During all the steps, they will only check your Digital Iqama on Absher except where I have mentioned the requirement of bringing a hard copy.

Obtaining a driving license in Saudi Arabia can feel like a complex process, but with preparation and patience, it becomes manageable. Each step, from booking your appointment to passing the practical test ensures you’re ready to drive safely on the roads. Take time to study the materials, practice driving skills, and approach each step with confidence.
